The existing plant will be extended and supplemented with another entirely new treatment plant. We will be blasting out around 530,000 cu m of solid rock in total – covering an area of around the same size as the Globe Arena – for a new plant that will accommodate primary treatment, grit chambers and chemical treatment with pre-sedimentation.
If you live close to the plant or have visited the area, you may have noticed an unpleasant odour in the vicinity. This odour is caused by the sludge treatment that currently takes place outdoors. Refurbishment of the Sickla plant and the Henriksdal treatment plant mean that sludge treatment is now being moved to Henriksdal, where treatment can take place inside the mountain. The natural perimeter protection means that the disruptive odour will not spread to the local area.
This work will continue over a period of six years while the treatment plant continues to operate as usual.
