Here you can read more about what is included in the project Stockholm Future Wastewater Treatment, how the tunnel is being constructed and about the Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant that is being upgraded with membrane technology.
We plan to construct a 14 kilometre tunnel below Stockholm and decommission Bromma Wastewater Treatment Plant. Henriksdal Wastewater Treatment Plant will be upgraded to double its capacity in order to be able to manage and process wastewater from the population of Stockholm up to the year 2040. Beyond the project horizon of 2040, the Henriksdal WWTP is planned for additional capacity increase corresponding to an increase in Stockholm population for year 2120.
The tunnel will solve sewer network capacity problems in the western and southern parts of Stockholm reducing overflow of wastewater to Lake Mälaren by 50 %.
