The Sickla plant, wich is part of the Henriksdal treatment plant, will be expanded in order to cope with the increase in the volume of wastewater. After that, the wastewater will be sent on in an existing tunnel to the Henriksdal treatment plant. We will be upgrading the Henriksdal treatment plant, making it one of the most modern plants in the world. Membrane technology – a new, improved stage in the wastewater treatment process – will be installed here.
This project offers a number of environmental benefits. The treated wastewater will be even cleaner before being released. We will be able to remove 40 per cent more nitrogen from the treated wastewater before releasing it back into the Baltic Sea. There will be a 50 per cent reduction in unexpected emissions during heavy downpours. Existing transportation of sludge in residential areas in Bromma and Sickla will no longer be necessary. The Baltic Sea and Lake Mälaren will be cleaner.
